For years, we have all known how much Meghan Markle’s terrible dad just plain sucks.
We’re talking about a guy who created problems for no reason and doubled down at every turn to make them worse.
The world has also been aware that Prince Harry’s family was not always as supportive of Meghan as they should have been.
Now, we know that those two are related. Prince Charles tried to push Meghan to reconcile with Daddy Dearest.
In May of 2018, Meghan Markle married Prince Harry in a memorable royal wedding.
Thomas Markle Sr. made a series of poor choices, including arranged paparazzi photos and ill-advised interviews.
Following a health crisis, Meghan ended up walking herself down the aisle (with a little help from Prince Charles).

That summer, Thomas doubled down on many of his mistakes.
He gave interview after interview, sharing personal conversations that he’d had with Meghan and Harry.
At times, he even lashed out at his daughter and at the royal family.
Thomas’ “woe is me” act may have happened out of desperation to force his daughter to reach out to him.
Over time, however, people stopped being sure if he had a clear motive. It felt exploitative, at times.
British tabloids, frothing at the mouth over Meghan’s existence, kept inviting him for interviews … and he kept going.
Veteran biographer Tom Bower reports in Between The Windsors that, in July 2018, Prince Harry’s dad grew resentful.
“Prince Charles is also claimed to have grown frustrated with Meghan,” the book describes.
According to the account, “he had never really understood her or what she wanted.”

“Charles’ irritation had reportedly reached a boiling point,” the book describes.
“And,” the report goes on, “he addressed the situation with his youngest son.”
Apparently, a major factor in Charles’ feelings was her father’s public misbehavior.
Harry then explained to Charles “that Meghan did not phone or email her father.”
She made this choice “due to suspicions that they were both compromised.”
Charles just replied: “Can’t she just go and see him and make this stop?”

“Charles is alleged to have ‘berated’ Harry” the book then reports.
Additionally, Bower claims: “the inconsistencies of Meghan’s excuses not only irritated Charles.”
The book continues: “But perhaps also the Queen.”

One wonders why she had to make “excuses” at all.
The book says that Charles and Queen Elizabeth encouraged Meghan to fly to see her father in person.
Allegedly, the royals felt “dismayed” by this clear boundary.

“It was completely unrealistic to think I could fly discreetly to Mexico,” Meghan allegedly explained.
Meghan reportedly continued: “arrive unannounced at his doorstep, to a location and residence I had never visited or know, in a small border town.”
The explanation went on: “and somehow hope to speak privately to my father.”

At least, not “without causing a frenzy of media attention and intrusion that could bring more embarrassment to the royal family.”
Distancing herself from a toxic, out-of-control dad was the right thing to do. Reconciliation would have been a mistake.
It is alarming to hear that the royal family pushed Meghan to compromise her emotional well-being for PR reasons.
