If the coronavirus pandemic has taught us anything, it's that you can sometimes learn a lot about someone's mental state just by looking at their hair.
In the same way that you can spot a struggling friend by their unkempt mane, you can occasionally recognize that someone is thriving just by glancing at their lustrous locks.
Which may be why so many Meghan Markle stans are losing their minds over the new 'do the Duchess of Sussex debuted this week.
Okay, so it's not radically different from the look she was sporting before.
But it's longer and straighter than usual, and it's so shiny you could check your reflection in the back of her head ... or something.
Meghan was the keynote speaker at this year’s virtual Girl Up Leadership Summit, and the live event earned rave reviews from tens of thousands of viewers.
As expected, her words were powerful, and many were left with a feeling of hope and the urge to keep pressing on through these difficult times.
But we'll get to that in a moment.
First, let's talk about that hair.
“She rocks straight hair, and that blue was fantastic,” one commenter wrote, according to Glamour.
“She’s such a good speaker. Her hair has grown soo much," another wrote.
"Leaving the U.K. really did wonders for her mind, body and soul. She can be an advocate without restrictions and that is power.”
Yes, it's been over three months since Harry and Meghan officially stepped down from their roles as senior members of the royal family.
And while there's been much discussion of what the royal couple is doing since they left the UK, there's been less talk about how they're doing.
Insiders have claimed that Harry is depressed and homesick in LA, and while he has been keeping a lower profile than usual, his lower profile could be a result of coronavirus precautions.
Meanwhile, to the surprise of absolutely no one, the Duchess of Sussex seems much happier and healthier now that she's back on her home turf.
Meghan was bullied and harassed by the UK tabloid media on a daily basis in her old life.
The rest of the royal family seemed uninterested in helping her, and there was a time when Meghan's escape from that life seemed an impossibility.
So it's no wonder that the Duchess of feeling hopeful these days.
And that optimism was very much reflected in her speech this week:
“This is a humanity that desperately needs you,” she told her young audience.
"To push it—to push us—forcefully in a more inclusive, more just, and more empathetic direction," Meghan added.
"To not only frame the debate but be in charge of the debate—on racial justice, gender, climate change, mental health, and well-being, on civic engagement, on public service, on so much more. That’s the work you’re already out there doing.”
Meghan acknowledged the good work being done by the upcoming generation of young woman, but she urged them to push harder and do even more.
“I know you have already done so much and made so many people’s lives better," she said.
"The moment we are living through right now asks all of us to do more. It’s a moment where your voices, and your action, have never been more urgently needed.”
Clearly, Meghan is aware these are unusually challenging times, but she also believes that people of all nations and generations can come together to build a better tomorrow.
Like Meghan's hair, that's change we can all get behind.
