By now, you've probably heard the distressing news:
Photos of Justin Timberlake holding hands with actress Alisha Wainwright have been making the rounds online, and they don't bode well for the future of JT's marriage to Jessica Biel.
On Monday, a rep for Wainwright spoke out on the scandal and denied that the actress' relationship with Timberlake is anything other than purely professional:
“There is no validity to this speculation," the rep said.
"They are working on a project together."
Insiders who have sounded off on the speculation echo that sentiment and claim that Justin and Alisha are co-stars and friends, nothing more.
“There is nothing going on between them,” a source close to Alisha tells People magazine.
"They all know each other and were hanging. Like, come on, they’re on an open balcony in New Orleans and he’s famous. It was nothing.”
As incriminating as the situation might sound at first, there really is reason to believe that there's nothing going on between Timberlake and Wainwright.
But don't tell that to the most obsessive Britney Spears fans, some of whom have been waiting for this moment for a decade and a half.
Yes, believe it or not, it's been 15 years since Britney and Justin called off their pseudo-chaste, Disney-approved romance.
At first, the couple kept a lid on the details of the split, then JT put Brit on blast with "Cry Me a River," the hit single that not-so-subtly called Spears out for cheating.
Britney fans were outraged then, and it seems they're still angry now.
Yes, for some of the internet's most fervent "stans" the lives of their "favs" are epic-length soap operas.
And for many who worship at the altar of Godney, Justin's comeuppance has been 15 years in the making:
"Justin is trash and Britney was right. Period," one fan tweeted over the weekend.
"JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE HAS AND ALWAYS WILL BE AN A—HOLE FOR NOT STANDING BY BRITNEY SPEARS AND CHEATING ON HIS WIFE!" another echoed.
"HE PROFITED OFF OF NONSENSE FOR YEARS ON THE BACK OF BRITNEY SPEARS! HE'S BEEN THE REAL CHEATER ALL ALONG. BRITNEY SPEARS, JUSTICE 15+ YEARS LATER HAS BEEN SERVED!!!"
We're guessing these people won't be dissuaded by the fact that Britney doesn't seem to bear any ill will toward Justin.
And we imagine if you try to explain to them that there's no hard evidence of Justin's infidelity, you'll wind up on the receiving end of an all-caps tirade.
So perhaps the best thing to do is gently remind them is remind them that life is complicated, and freakin' George W. Bush was in office when these two broke up, for cryin' out loud.
So let's forget about the nasty breakups and just focus on the good times -- after all, we'll always have JT and Brit's horrendous matching denim nightmare.
