It's never easy to leave behind a job and co-workers that you genuinely love.
We imagine that when said job made you rich and famous, introduced your spouse and forever altered the course of your life, the separation is even more painful.
Ultimately, we're speculating, and there might be any number of reasons that Kit Harington checked into rehab last week.
Page Six is reporting that Harington has checked into a luxury facility in Connecticut in order to be treated for issues related to "stress and alcohol."
A source tells the tabloid that the show's final episodes “really hit him hard," though it's still unclear if Harington's decision to seek treatment was related to the conclusion of the series that made him famous.
According to Page Six, Harington will be "undergoing psychological coaching, practicing mindful meditation and cognitive behavioral therapy to combat stress and deal with negative emotions" at the $120,000 a month facility.
“He realized ‘this is it — this is the end,' it was something they had all worked so hard on for so many years. He had a moment of, what next?" a friend of Harington's tells the outlet.
“He’s in the clinic predominantly for stress and exhaustion and also alcohol," the source adds.
“His wife Rose is being extremely supportive. Everyone close to him really wanted him to get some rest. Right now, he just needs peace and quiet.”
Reps for Harington were more vague in their comments about the actor's struggles:
“Kit has decided to utilize this break in his schedule as an opportunity to spend some time at a wellness retreat to work on some personal issues," they said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
Harington has been spotted at bookstores and other local businesses near the small town where his rehab facility is located.
“Kit looks really good and appears to be very focused on his health and wellness," said one resident.
A recent HBO documentary about the making of Game of Thrones' final season showed Harington repeatedly breaking down in tears, particularly upon learning that his character is the one to kill Emilia Clarke's Daenerys Targaryen.
While a project like Thrones is a once-in-a-lifetime dream for any young, unknown actor, we're sure leaving the show behind brings with it a slew of unique stresses and challenges.
We applaud Kit for seeking treatment, and we wish him all the best in his road to recovery.
