Last month, Teen Mom: OG star Ryan Edwards married Mackenzie Standifer, but there wasn't much time for a honeymoon.
Shortly after saying "I do," Maci Bookout's baby daddy Edwards checked into rehab to be treated for substance abuse issues.
Ones so severe, they reportedly threatened his life.
As if that weren't serious enough, it now looks as though that wasn't the only dark cloud hanging over the couple's ceremony.
Ryan and Mackenzie's wedding will be featured on Teen Mom: OG (above) and it seems the event was anything but a joyous occasion.
The wedding was attended only by Ryan's parents, Jen and Larry.
Yes, Ryan's beloved son with Maci, Bentley, was not on hand for the occasion - a fact that simply broke Ryan's mother's heart.
“The most important people aren’t here," Jen, who is famously close to Ryan, protested through tears at one point.
The younger Edwards tried to put his mother's mind at ease, but he seemed pretty upset by the situation himself:
“Mom, it don’t matter if there’s 100 people or two people here,” Edwards insisted to his mother at the wedding.
“As long as we love each other.”
Speaking to his father, Ryan seemed considerable less optimistic about his son's absence from such an event.
“How are you gonna tell Bentley?” Larry asked.
“I don’t think we’re going to, Dad,” Ryan said.
Yes, it seems that when Ryan Edwards checked into rehab, his son didn't know he had a new stepmother.
Fortunately, these days, Edwards has completed his treatment, is out of rehab and appears to be on the upswing.
We think. Teen Mom fans have pointed to a handful of troubling signs that may indicate Edwards is still struggling:
For one thing, Ryan, 29, wasn't in rehab for very long. As far as we can tell, he checked shortly after his wedding.
He left on June 19.
That's only about four weeks. Treatment programs generally recommend that as the bare minimum for in-patient care.
There's a reason for that.
On top of that, Edwards immediately began taking shots at Maci Bookout after leaving treatment. Not an encouraging sign.
For someone who's supposed to be leaving the past and its accompanying negative emotions behind him, what does that say?
Obviously, we're hoping for the best for Ryan, and Mackenzie, but there's no denying that these causes for concern are real.
Think he can turn this around?
We will say that Standifer seems to really love and care for Ryan despite all of these issues, so that will be a huge help.
We just hope it's enough. As always, watch Teen Mom online to get caught up in time for a drama-packed season finale.
