Which FOUR singers are headed home after The Voice results were announced, and which four are headed to next week’s epic finale?

If you thought the previous three weeks – which cut the field down from 12 to eight – were suspenseful, this was downright nerve wracking.

For the elite eight, it went down to the wire Tuesday …

Billy Gilman, Sundance Head, Josh Gallagher and Christian Cuevas occupied the top four spots of the iTunes download charts Tuesday.

Brendan Fletcher, We McDonald, Ali Caldwell and Aaron Gibson … did not. In fact, none of those four even cracked the top ten list.

Downloads of The Voice Top 8 performances are only one aspect of The Voice results, along with online, Facebook and app votes.

And, of course, there is the Twitter save. But still … the downloads are often a pretty good indicator of who’s getting all kinds of votes.

How did it shake out at the end of the night? Let’s see:

(NBC)

The Top Three, Advancing to the Season Finale:

Billy Gilman (Team Adam)

Sundance Head (Team Blake)

Wé McDonald (Team Alicia)

It’s not clear the order in which they placed, but Billy and Sundance were locks, and We had the fan base to overcome one off night.

The Bottom Two, Instantly Eliminated:

Brendan Fletcher (Team Adam)

Aaron Gibson (Team Miley)

Not surprising, really, in terms of either grouping comprising those five. So that left three singers vying for the final, coveted placement.

Singing For Their Lives:

Christian Cuevas (Team Alicia)

Ali Caldwell (Team Miley)

Josh Gallagher (Team Adam)

None of their performances were game-changers, or deal-breakers, but Ali seemed to perform best. Twitter would have the final say.

Eliminated:

Christian Cuevas (Team Alicia)

Ali Caldwell (Team Miley)

Saved:

Josh Gallagher (Team Adam)

The Voice Tandem
(NBC)

Well, there you have it, Voice fandom.

Josh will have his work cut out for him Monday to compete with those other three aspiring stars, and the producers will have to ask themselves:

Is this format really the best option?

Should the auditions be truncated and the playoffs extended, with the elimination process done 1-2 at a time, throughout the live rounds?
