Does anyone else feel like Empire has evolved pretty much overnight?
For the first time in a long time, there are consequences to character actions. Gone are the days of the forced plot twists to get people talking.
The stories seem to be naturally meshing together these days and it’s making for a much more intriguing series.
The stunt casting is just that. It does not bring anything new to the table. It’s actually pretty cumbersome, so this episode carried itself pretty well by focusing on the key players and the immediate jeopardy in their lives.
Jamal continued to try and make sense of what would really help him get rid of his PTSD. There was absolutely no way he was going to recover quickly from being shot.
The thing that made it worse for him was that he and Freda had forged a really strong relationship, so there’s an element of trust that will probably never return to their friendship.
Jamal understood that Freda was going after Lucious to avenge the death of her father, so that’s why he knew he had to find a way to get her out of jail.
He felt somewhat responsible for the chain of events that occurred. Poor Freda was pretty much getting attacked on demand by Lucious’ band of crooks.
Jamal managed to talk the judge into granting Freda bail, but Lucious revealed to Jamal that Freda is not as good as we’ve been led to believe.
This could all be another power play by Lucious. The dude loves those, so we’ll need to tune in to find out what comes next.
However, it does not look like Jamal will be quitting the drugs and alcohol any time soon. People may think Jamal is on the road to recovery, but he’s more likely on the road to destruction.
Elsewhere, the race was on to sign Nessa to Empire. Nessa has been a thrilling addition to the cast. Shyne is controlling her, but it seems like she’s going to try her best to get away from him in order to manage her own career.
Shyne was getting way too greedy and that’s why he sparked a bidding war for the recording contract. As you all know if you watch Empire online, Lucious Lyon does not like to lose.
He would probably kill his children if the opportunity would get him more subscribers for Empire X Stream.
Andre continued to help out to try and get the recording contract signed, but going to see Nessa alone probably was not one of his best moves.
Shyne went crazy and showed up at Empire with a gun, but Lucious and Andre overpowered him and managed to get him to sign the contract.
There was no way that was going to be the end of it. Shyne then chatted to his army, with guns at the ready, waging war on the Lyons.
It was a powerful scene and we’re now super scared for our favorite characters. Hopefully they all make it out of this mess alive.
While Shyne was getting his troops ready, Andre engaged in a threesome with Nessa and the ghost of his ex-wife, Rhonda.
Yes, that seriously happened and it was one of the most uncomfortable scenes on TV in quite some time.
Elsewhere, Cookie went to a fundraiser with Angelo and almost indulged in a catfight with two women were trashing her in the bathroon. Didn’t they think to check if anyone was in there?
Cookie was not impressed, but managed to restrain herself from making a mistake and ran off from the party. She then managed to get Tiana back in her good books by giving her a bold new song with an opera-style twist.
"Cupid Kills" was up there as one of the best episodes of Empire. It’s just a shame the series is on hiatus now to accommodate the World Series.
