Remember when Zayn Malik quit One Direction? And claimed it was because he wanted to live a normal life for awhile?

Yeah. That was pretty much a lie.

The artist signed a contract with RCA Records on Thursday, posting a picture of himself doing so on Twitter and writing as a caption:

"I guess I never explained why I left , it was for this moment to be given the opportunity to show you who i really am! #realmusic #RCA !"

Yes. Real music. We wonder how One Direction fans will feel about this hastag.

Malik, of course, did supposedly reveal his reasons for leaving One Direction back in March, explaining at the time:

"I’d like to apologize to the fans if I’ve let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart.

"I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight."

He has had some time, we suppose, but there’s been talk of a Malik solo career since the moment he left Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and company.

Prior to Zayn’s departure, the singer had taken a hiatus from the band’s tour, citing stress likely related to chatter he had stepped out on fiancee Perrie Edwards.

"I’m 22 years old," he Tweeted in response. "I love a girl named Perrie Edwards…And there’s a lot of jealous f–ks in this world I’m sorry for what it looks like."

With how One Direction supporters are likely to respond to the next phase of his professional life, Zayn may soon be issuing another apology.
