Calling all Pittsburgh Nick Jonas fans!! Your boy has signed on for a last minute performance for the Pittsburg Pride’s concert.
Iggy Azalea backed out of the Pride performance after the LGBTQ community raged over homophobic tweets she had posted. But Nick Jonas saved the day.
Jonas voluntarily took the empty slot for the performance!!
Jonas said, "When I heard about the difficult position Pittsburgh Pride was in just days before their event, I knew I had to find a way to help.”
He added, “I'm excited to do what I can to support the LGBT community in Pittsburgh, and I look forward to seeing you this Saturday as we celebrate together.”
Jonas has been an open supporter of the LGBTQ community for many years. In 2012, he stated, “My thoughts on gay marriage are that everyone has the right to love and be loved, and that's the position I take.”
“My upbringing was faith-based, but [the Jonas Brothers and I] believed you should love all others as you want to be loved, because everyone should be treated equally,” the “Chains” singer told Out Magazine.
The Delta Foundation of Pittsburg is excited to have Jonas grace the stage. The organization tweeted, “We're thrilled to announce that multi-platinum selling recording artist and actor Nick Jonas is the new headliner.”
While Jonas is being praised for stepping in, Iggy is begging for forgiveness.
"I am sorry to anyone I have offended or disappointed & I wish all my fans and friends participating in Pride the best of luck," Azalea tweeted.
Jonas is often considered a gay icon. In 2014, after a series of shirtless pics and a number of gay club appearances, he gained popularity in the LGBTQ community.
"I don't know if I'd necessarily call myself a gay icon," he told Rolling Stone.
“But my goal in the last year was to expand and grow as a person and an artist, and embracing my gay fans was a priority. Some of my gay friends have thanked me for that, and that's a really good feeling."
