After months of speculation and rumors of tension with castmates and producers, NeNe Leakes announced something we thought we'd never see:
She's leaving The Real Housewives of Atlanta after seven seasons.
“This was definitely a hard decision for me,” Leakes tells People.
“Me and my husband [Gregg] have been going back and forth on it for weeks now. But my contract is up and I just think this is the right time."
“This is my opportunity to spread my wings and do different things.”
Asked if her many arguments and rivalries influenced her decision, Leakes replied, “There were times when I was a target. I won’t miss the negativity.”
Fans of the outspoken Bravo-lebrity, who's been called the network's biggest star, won't have to worry about missing out on their NeNe fix.
Reports indicate that Leakes will co-star in a spinoff with Kim Zolciak, her former co-star, that's set to premiere sometime in late 2015.
NeNe has also mentioned that she's going into business with Kim Kardashian (for serious) on an as-yet unspecified project.
Leakes left the door open for a possible return to RHOA at some point in the future, but she will no longer be under contract to do so.
"I'm not saying I'm gone forever," NeNe says in her statement. "I'll probably pop up and play with those girls every now and then."
We eagerly await that day.
In the meantime, we'll watch The Real Housewives of Atlanta online at TV Fanatic to relive all of Leakes' most NeNe-esque moments.
