Yesterday, Heidi Thomas accused Bill Cosby of rape. She gave an account of her 1984 run-in with the comedian that sounded similar to the stories told by the more than 30 other women who have now alleged that they were sexually assaulted by Cosby.

As with each previous accuser, the media wondered aloud if Thomas coming forward would serve as a tipping point for Cosby and cause him to cancel his controversial comedy tour so that he can give this growing scandal the attention that it merits.

Cosby gave the world his answer today in the form of a written statement issued through his new PR team. As you might have guessed, he refuses to budge:

“Dear Fans: For 53 years, you have given me your love, support, respect, and trust. Thank you! I can’t wait to see your smiling faces  and warm your hearts with a wonderful gift – LAUGHTER!

“I’m ready! I thank you, the theater staff, the event organizers, and the Lafayette Community for your continued support and coming to experience family, fun, and entertainment.

“Hey, hey – I’m far from finished!”

The “community” that Cosby refers to is Lafyette, Louisiana, where he is scheduled to perform tomorrow.

This latest letter is similar to an earlier statement released by Cosby, and once again, the comic is being criticized for his inappropriately cheerful tone.

Thus far, no charges have been filed against Cosby, as all of the alleged incidents fall outside the statute of limitations for sexual assault.
