ABC started to tell a Manhattan Love Story tonight.
The new sitcom tells a dating tale from two perspectives, that of Analeigh Tipton’s Dana and that of Jake McDorman’s Peter, as viewers were let in on the inner most thoughts of a man and a woman, only to basically realize:
They’re exactly what we’d assume them to be.
Indeed, Manhattan Love Story Season 1 Episode 1 has been SLAMMED by critics around the country for simply playing to stereotypes.
Did you know men often think about sex? And women love flowers? It’s amazing but true!
Adding to the criticism is the fact that ABC’s own synopsis for the series says relationships would be helped if one kept “a majority of thoughts to one’s self,” ostensibly because those thoughts would just be so insulting and embarrassing to the opposite sex.
Safe to say this is a rather cynical point of view.
What did you think of the Manhattan Love Story opener? Was it a fun and revealing look at the differences between men and women? Or a really lame attempt to turn sexism into humor?
