Late last month, Weird Al Yankovic scored his first-ever number-one album.

But thousands of fans around the country are hoping to help the unique artist earn an even bigger honor next year: Super Bowl halftime performer!

A petition has launched on Change.org that urges the NFL to select Weird Al for the big game on February 1, with over 40,000 names affixed to it as of this writing.

"Think about the Super Bowls of past years, when you had no vested interest in either team, especially during a game that was a blowout or boring," says Ed Ball, a fan from Seattle who started the petition while drunk.

He added:

"What did you remember the most? I’m betting it was typically the humorous commercials, or some kick a** halftime performance. Why not combine the two?"

The man makes a good point, especially as Super Bowl commercials become more and more lame each year.

"I do not want to sit through another Black Eyed Peas disaster or see Nicki Minaj verbal vomit some lyrics that I cannot understand," Ball also wrote. "And do you want Miley Cyrus?!? Because this is how you will end up with Miley Cyrus!!!"

A similar movement popped up in 2012, to which Weird Al told TMZ:

"I’d be surprised if that’s being seriously considered by the NFL. But prove me wrong!"

You heard the star, Roger Goodell! Make this happen.
