We have an update on the tragic death of Robin Williams.
As previously reported, the Oscar winner was found dead late Monday morning after authorities responded to a 911 call and discovered Williams’ unresponsive body inside his Tiburon, California home.
Now, according to TMZ sources, we can confirm that Williams hanged himself. He did so in the main part of the house (not the garage) and he did not leave a note.
A coroner will perform an autopsy on Williams some time today and law enforcement officials will hold a news conference today at 11 AM PT to discuss details of the suicide.
Soon after the sad news of Robin’s passing hit the Internet, wife Susan Schneider released a statement that asked for privacy and also asked fans to remember “the countless moments of joy and laughter [Williams] gave to millions."
Daughter Zelda Williams also paid tribute to her dad, quoting a passage from The Little Prince and writing on Twitter:
You – you alone will have the stars as no one else has them… In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night… You – only you will have stars that can laugh.
Earlier this summer, Williams checked into rehab, with those close to the star saying he had fallen into a very deep depression.
He struggled with cocaine and alcohol abuse in the early 1980s, but had been sober for over two decades until a recent relapse.
