Indio Downey was arrested for cocaine possession on Sunday, and the 20-year-old's famous (and famously troubled) father Robert Downey Jr. issued a statement today assuring fans that the matter is being dealt with.
"Unfortunately, there's a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it," said Downey in an a statement issued to Us Weekly.
He went on to say, "There is a lot of family support and understanding, and we're all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he's capable of being.
"We're grateful to the Sheriff's department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale."
Downey, of course, has struggled with addiction in the past and was imprisoned and forced to attend in-patient court ordered counseling in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
The actor's success story is considered to be one of the most awe-inspiring in Hollywood history, as he now commands record-breaking paydays each time he reprises his role as Iron Man.
Indio was arrested after a car driven by a friend was pulled over when police spotted a passenger smoking from a pipe. The car was searched, and cocaine, as well as undisclosed paraphernalia were found to be in Indio's possession.
