While drinking nearly killed Deryck Whibley of Sum 41 fame, other celebs seem perfectly capable of hitting the bottle without doing any serious damage to their careers.
Take Channing Tatum, for example.
The Magic Mike heartthrob’s career is taking off like never before and anyone with eyes can see he’s in peak physical condition, so it may surprise some fans to hear Channing describe himself as a "high-functioning alcoholic."
"I probably drink too much, you know," Tatum said in a recent interview with GQ. "My wife, that’s what she bought into. I’m probably a pretty high-functioning, I guess, you know, I would say alcoholic."
Tatum, who has been cast as Gambit in the upcoming X-Men films goes on to detail the reasons why he loves the sauce:
"There’s probably a tendency to escape," says Channing. "I equate it to creativity, and I definitely equate it to having a good time."
Fortunately, there’s one road Channing says he’ll never go down, no matter how drunk he gets:
Tatum says Jonah Hill – his co-star in 21 Jump Street – offered to "kiss the tip of [his] dick" if the film grossed more than $35 million at the box office.
The movie greatly outperformed Hill’s expectations, and has spawned a forthcoming sequel, but Channing hasn’t held Jonah to his word.
"That’s a bad bet to lose – it’s not good to win either," says Tatum. We’ll definitely drink to that.
