We didn’t think celebs actually cared if they won or lost at the MTV Movie Awards, but apparently Ice Cube takes these things seriously – to the point that he’ll insult a beloved, recently departed actor if he doesn’t get his golden popcorn.
After Walker and his Fast and Furious 6 co-star Vin Diesel beat out Cube and Kevin Hart for Best Onscreen Duo, Cube expressed his frustration in a post-show interview.
“We was robbed. Shame on you MTV,” the rapper/actor told USA Today. “We had the best chemistry of everybody nominated. For us not to win was crazy. We were the best onscreen duo, period.”
When the interviewer pointed out that Walker may have been a sentimental favorite as he was recently killed in a tragic accident, Cube reportedly gave a “too little, too late” shrug, and replied, “They should have gave it to him before he passed away.”
He later added that he felt Walker won the award out of “sympathy.”
After several hundred of his Twitter followers pointed out to Cube how epically douchey his comments came off, he quickly tweeted an apology:
“Re: The MTV Movie Awards. I wasn’t really mad we didn’t win. So I would never diss actors who won. Not even Paul Walker. Seriously people!”
Is it just us, or is that literally the worst apology ever?
We’re sure Ice Cube would’ve written more, but he’s probably working on his thesis-length tirade about all the awards he lost to the movie Frozen. I’ll show myself out.
