Ouch. Blake Shelton zinged Britney Spears hard at last night’s Academy of Country Music Awards during his monologue as co-host with Luke Bryan.
"If you don’t like live music, then you need to go down the block and see Britney Spears," he said, referring to the pop star’s well-documented lip-syncing.
Britney’s residency at Planet Hollywood takes place a few casinos down.
Surprisingly, cameras did not cut away to Britney’s sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, who was in the audience (and is trying to make her own way in country music).
While Shelton and Bryan had plenty more where that came from, they had nothing but props for Carrie Underwood’s maligned performance in Sound of Music.
The only joke that resulted from that came at Shelton’s expense.
"Thanks to Carrie, country stars everywhere can be in Broadway musicals," Bryan said, turning to Shelton, "You and Miranda would be perfect for Beauty and the Beast."
