Jake Gyllenhaal was hospitalized after punching a mirror on the L.A. set of his new film Nightcrawler on Wednesday morning, reports indicate.
Stating the obvious, "Jake flipped out," a Nightcrawler set source says.
"His character was looking into a mirror during the scene and he punched the mirror in anger and broke it, cutting himself so bad he had to be taken to a hospital."
A source close to Gyllenhaal, 32, confirms the actor received stitches in the emergency room, but says it was nothing more than a moment in character.
Not comparing actors to soldiers, but Jake does work 18-hour days.
"The scene was emotionally charged and his character was talking into a mirror and he got so into it, he banged his hands against the mirror and it broke and cut him."
"It was all the scene, not because he was mad about anything else."
Another source says the traditionally buff star has been "starving himself" to lose approximately 20 pounds for his role as a crime reporter in the new drama.
Regardless of the reason, Gyllenhaal returned to set later that day. Fortunately, his hand was the only part of his beautiful self that was injured, too.
Look at that face. We can't have anything happen to that.
