Back in the daze of Laguna Beach and The Hills,Jason Wahler earned a reputation as a hard-partying rich kid who broke Lauren Conrad’s heart a lot.
It was well earned. But he was more troubled than his rep let on.
After multiple arrests and stays in rehab, and a season on Celebrity Rehab, JW is a recovering alcoholic who’s opening up about his dark days.
The 26-year-old tells celebrity gossip magazine In Touch:
“I tried taking my life multiple times. About four years ago, I took more than 10 Antabuse [medication that can reduce the desire to drink] and was rushed to the hospital.”
“It should’ve killed me.”
Jason Wahler has been sober for three years, and claims he feels as though he found fame through his MTV reality shows just so he could share his story.
So people can learn, he says, how “deadly addiction can be.”
And while Conrad and Kristin Cavallari, Wahler’s ex-girlfriend and co-star, went on to find success beyond the show, other Hills alums fell fast and hard.
The show’s primary antagonists, Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, ended up broke and living with Pratt’s parents after blowing through $10 million.
Romantically, Wahler is engaged for the second time, to Ashley Slack (below). He and Katja Decker-Sadowski called off their wedding a few years ago.
