It was a long, arduous legal battle, but Madonna has finally won the legal right to adopt a daughter from Malawi.
Preparation and paperwork have begun that will male Chifundo "Mercy" James, 3, the official child of the iconic singer.
"It's the early hours in New York now but my client has been awake all night waiting for this," Madonna's Malawi lawyer, Alan Chinula, said to People. "She was ecstatic when I broke the news to her. She said, 'Thank heavens.'"
Let's hope Madonna's children never learn how to run a Google search. This is a relatively tame photo of their mother.
It ought to take approximately three to five days before Mercy can join fellow adoptee David at home 3. Similar to his adoption, this process did not go smoothly for Madonna.
James's own father is on record as being against it, claiming that he is capable of supporting his family.
