Granted, we already knew John Edwards was a liar. Dude had denied rumors of an affair with Rielle Hunter for weeks, only to be forced to admit the truth last week due to pressure from the Democratic party.
According to Us Weekly and former FBI Unit Chief and polygraph examiner Jack Trimarco, though, Edwards continued to fudge the facts in his August 8 Nightline interview about the fling.
Trimarco analyzed portions of the interview – posted below – and says that Edwards’ frequent attempts to dodge questions, along with his shady body language, imply he often lied during the conversation.
For example, Edwards was asked if the story of the affair was accurate. His reply?
“I’ve been in love for the same woman for 30-plus years…. Warm, loving, beautiful, sexy and as good a person as I have ever known. So the story’s just false.”
Thanks for that description of Elizabeth Edwards, Senator, but as Trimarco says, he’s “not answering the question. He’s buying time to give an appropriate, innocent response. They weren’t asking, ‘How great is your wife?’ They were asking about the accuracy of the story.

Furthermore, when the photo of Edwards supposedly holding Hunter’s baby was brohched, the cheating husband asked: “The picture in the tabloid?”
Tisk, tisk, responds Trimarco: “When a person is getting ready to tell a lie, they repeat the question back because they need time to formulate an innocent response.
Overall, there may still be more to this story. Trimarco, for one, certainly doesn’t buy all of what Edwards was selling during the interview.
“It’s pretty clear that when John Edwards is getting ready to tell a lie, his affect is inappropriate,” Trimarco said. “He smiles a lot during this interview when he shouldn’t be smiling. It’s almost like a nervous preparation to get his lie out.”
Do you believe John Edwards has admitted everything about his affair with Rielle Hunter?
