Britney Spears has often been the subject of ridicule, but she drew some good-natured laughs Monday after popping in on the Late Show with David Letterman unannounced.
Sporting a blonde bob and a cute, short black dress that showed off her newly svelte shape, the wife of K-Fed and the mother of Jayden James surprised the host by walking onstage behind him as he was sitting at his desk.
“Oh, my god,” he exclaimed, standing up to shake her hand and plant a kiss behind her ear. “Hi, how are you? Nice to see you. Oh, you look wonderful.”
Brit was happy to see David Letterman, too.
“Thank you so much. I’m in town, and I’m just such a huge fan. I had to stop by,” Spears said.
“That’s very nice of you to say. That means so much to me,” said Letterman.
But the joke was on the late-night king.
“Uh, no, I wasn’t talking about you,” Spears said. “I was talking about Will Ferrell.”
A flustered Letterman then quickly directed her to the whereabouts of Ferrell, his scheduled guest for the evening.
“He’s in the green room,” he said.
