Because she wants to avoid a run-in with Kanye West? Perhaps.
Instead of theorizing over Swift’s absence, however, we’ll focus instead on those who WILL be prominent at the event on Sunday, August 28.
Here’s a rundown of performers and presenters on tap for the VMAs….
Rihanna
Expect some seriously sexy dance moves when Rihanna takes the stage to perform! She’s receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award at the ceremony and will be performing a medley of hits.
Future
Future will take a break from feuding with Ciara in order to also perform.
Nicki Minaj
Minaj took to the VMA stage alongside Swift in the past. That won’t happen this year. But she will perform!
Ariana Grande
Hide the donuts! Ariana Grande is coming to perform!
Beyonce
Beyonce leads the way with 11 nominatios. She is strongly expected to perform, although this has not yet been confirmed.
Kanye West
Kanye will have four minutes to perform. He’s expected to sing “Famous.”
Diddy
Diddy failed as a host many years ago. But he’ll present in 2016.
Alicia Keys
Alicia Keys will be a coach on The Voice Season 11. And a presented at the VMAs!
Ansel Elgort
They don’t ALL need to be musicians, right? Ansel Elgort, an actor, will present someone with an award.
Jaden Smith
Jaden Smith is alive! Having survived a death hoax, Jaden is headed to the presenting stage.
Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian will presumably leave the body oil at home and also present an award.
Rita Ora
We assume Kim will avoid running into Rob Kardashian’s ex-girlfriend there, as Rita Ora is also confirmed to present.
DJ Khaled
DJ Khaled has also been pegged to present. We assume he’s showing up for the free food.
Tove Lo
Tove Lo is known for singing. But she’ll be presenting at the VMAs on Sunday.
