Connor Cruise is apparently on the same page as Snoop Dogg when it comes to Caitlyn Jenner.
The same day Snoop labeled Caitlyn Jenner a science project, Tom Cruise’s 20-year old son ranted away on Twitter over Jenner receiving the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at this year’s ESPYs.
"Really?? Winning the AA award for courage?? Ashton is gonna come out and yell PUNK’D," Cruise Tweeted Wednesday.
He then went on, trying to claim he’s not trying to insult Caitlyn Jenner coming out as a transgender woman.
"Don’t get me wrong. Do what you feel like doing and don’t let anyone stop you.
"But everyone is taking this way too seriously…There are so many more important things that should be talked about…And SO MANY MORE IMPORTANT PEOPLE that actually deserve an award."
Cruise did say he’s “totally supportive of people staying true to themselves and finding true happiness in whatever way they can."
But he then listed stories that he finds more pressing that Bruce Jenner becoming a female.
“Like the fact that we are overfishing and in 30 years there will be no more fish. Seems dumb but 85 percent of the worlds protein is fish….
"Or what about the fact that our planet is becoming less habitable on a daily basis. Yet the population is increasing at an alarming rate…
"Or the fact that we all can’t even get a long on earth lol. We fight and kill each other. We have war and poverty. This needs to change."
We doubt anyone would object to these as important global topics.
But you can’t give an ESPY Award to our polluted planet, so it’s unclear what these issues have to do with Caitlyn Jenner receiving recognition for her bravery.
Under fire for his diatribe, Cruise sought to clarify his comments in subsequent Tweets.
“Totally twisting what I said, if you read what I said I totally support being happy and am glad she is happy,” he wrote last night, adding:
"We just need to as a nation and a world get back to business and making everything a better place… Way more about the problems the world needs to solve than about her."
Agreed. The world has some big problems to solve.
But one must ask: Where was this rant when Kim Kardashian was receiving endless coverage for losing weight?
Where was this rant when the Internet paid homage to Mad Men for a week prior to its series finale?
It’s hard not to find a hint of homophobia in anyone who only now decides to question why a certain story is garnering many headlines.
