New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has been found guilty of first degree in the death of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd.

A jury delivered the verdict moments ago, and sources inside the courtroom say a remorseless Hernandez shook his head in disbelief as the verdict was read.

The 25-year-old was also found guilty on gun and ammunition possession charges. He will receive an automatic sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Hernandez was arrested for Lloyd’s murder in June of 2013 and has been behind bars ever since.

Despite a wealth of damning evidence, such as video of Hernandez holding a gun on the day of the murder, legal experts believed there was a good chance that Hernandez might beat the charges.

The former Partiots stand-out is still under investigation for two other murders that took place before Lloyd was killed.

Many believe that Lloyd was murdered for fear that he might testify about the previous killings.

During closing arguments, Hernandez’s defense team acknowledged for the first time that he was present at the time of Lloyd’s death.

They claimed, however, that either of Hernandez’s co-defendants was the one to pull the trigger.

It was a desperate, last-minute gamble that clearly did not pay off for the once promising NFL star.
