Ian Somerhalder and Matt Bomer fans everywhere, rejoice! There’s hope once again to see them portray Christian Grey on the big screen.

In shocking news announced this afternoon, Charlie Hunnam has pulled out of the role in the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey movie adaptation.

Hunnam, best known for his role as Jax on FX’s Sons of Anarchy, has de-committed from playing Dakota Johnson’s love interest in the forthcoming project.

Interestingly, previous reports hinted at Hunnam quitting Fifty Shades of Grey because of fan reactions to his initial casting in the coveted role.

Those rumors were proven erroneous, but the response was underwhelming at best. Some readers even petitioned the producers for a new Christian.

So why did he actually exit the project – which has been confirmed – now?

Universal Studios and Focus Features released a joint statement on Saturday which said that Hunnam’s “immersive TV schedule” does not allow him “to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.”

The studio will recast the role and there is no word yet as to how Hunnam’s premature exit will affect the film’s release, presently set for August 2014.

It’s time to sound off! Are you happy or sad about Charlie’s exit? And now that the role is once again available, which sexy star do you hope gets it?
