Reese Witherspoon has been honest and apologetic since her arrest two weeks ago, saying she is so sorry and so embarrassed about what happened.
With good reason.
While there's no excusing Reese's disorderly conduct (or Jim Toth's DUI arrest), at least the star has been forthright and hasn't tried to make excuses.
Which makes it sort of okay to laugh at the dashcam video of the arrest, during which Reese told GMA she said "all kinds of crazy things" to the officer.
She wasn't kidding:
The tape, obtained from law enforcement sources and posted on TMZ, shows the arresting officer arresting Reese's husband Jim for DUI April 19.
At which point, Witherspoon loses it!
Admittedly drunk herself at the time, the 37-year-old Oscar winner foolishly tried to intervene, but the officer was unmoved. Some of Reese's best lines:
- "Do you know who I am? You're about to find out who I am!"
- "I have to obey your orders?!"
- "I'm now being arrested and handcuffed??"
- "I'm an American citizen ... I'm allowed to stand on American ground!"
- "I'm being anti-American?"
- "You're harassing me as an American citizen!"
- "I'm obstructing your justice?"
The best part? Her husband actually apologizing to the cop for Reese's nonsense comments afterward, saying, "I'm sorry, I had nothing to do with that!"
In her drunken ranting, Reese also told the cop she was pregnant and needed to pee, which she later admitted in an interview was not true. Either part.
Reese pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct after being arrested. Jim Toth pleaded guilty to DUI and was sentenced to probation and community service.
