White House party crasher, former reality star and perennial fame whore Tareq Salahi is running for Governor of Virginia as an "independent Republican."
Salahi said back in April that he planned to run for governor and seek the Republican nomination, but decided yesterday to run apart from the GOP ticket.
State Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli II was the only person to file as a GOP candidate for governor, and he was deemed the nominee Monday.
He is expected to face veteran campaign strategist Terry McAuliffe, a Democrat, with the former Mr. Michaele Salahi running as a third party candidate.
Salahi told The Washington Post that this improves chances in November.
“That’s the best way I can win this race, not going to the convention,” he said. “I’m doing just like Bill Bolling did. I can’t agree with anything that Cuccinelli believes in.”
Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling left the GOP contest in November and is also considering an independent bid. Virginia's gubernatorial race is set for this November.
Salahi is, of course, best known for crashing a White House State Dinner with wife Michaele Salahi, before she left him for Journey guitarist Neal Schon.
Remeber that whole saga? That was hilarious.
