Increasingly unhinged screenwriter Bret Easton Ellis, who wanted to pen the Fifty Shades of Grey movie, quickly bashed the woman chosen Monday to do so instead.
One of the film's producers slammed Ellis right back as a result.
Ellis tweeted Monday: "Kelly Marcel?!? KELLY MARCEL?!? Kelly Marcel is WRITING the script for 'Fifty Shades of Grey'?!? THIS is the movie they want to make? ARGH!"
"Kelly Marcel: the creator of (gulp) 'Terra Nova' and a Mary Poppins bio-pic has been blessed by EL James and no one can stop her. Dear God."
Fifty Shades of Grey producer Dana Brunetti fired back at Ellis: "@BretEastonEllis Really, Bret? The day you release that 'trailer'. School film? You're losing it."
Brunetti was referring to the teaser for Ellis' new film The Canyons, starring Lindsay Lohan and porn star James Deen. She then re-tweeted other anti-Ellis posts.
"I love Brett Easton Ellis... I love Paul Schrader... THE CANYONS looks like the worst student film ever made." read one post retweeted by Brunetti.
"The canyons teaser may be the worst f--king thing I have ever seen," read another.
This, naturally, triggered the wrath of Lohan fans for dragging her into it. Ah, Twitter.
"Apparently I've attacked @lindsaylohan. And now that I've @ her name I'm a media whore," reads Brunetti's latest tweet on the subject.
Kelly Marcel, meanwhile, is staying out of the fray, choosing to just happily tweet: "Beyond thrilled to be jumping aboard the 50 Shades train. Very exciting."
"@MissMarcel Excited to have you on board!" replied Brunetti.
As far as when we might FINALLY have our Christian Grey and Ana Steele, Brunetti offered up a helpful tip: "Again, writer then script then director then cast."
Matt Bomer and Alexis Bledel have gotten major buzz - as well as their own Fifty Shades of Grey trailer using footage of their past work. Well played, web.
Ellis, of course, ridiculed the idea of Matt Bomer as Christian Grey because the White Collar star is openly gay. Bret has some strong opinions on this stuff.
