So while the criticism against TLC, this series and the family at its center may grow stronger by the week, the ratings do the same.
Indeed, "for every person that's hating on us, there's three people that love us," Shannon tells TMZ when asked about her critics. "It's weird that haters know more about our show than our amazing fans."
Shannon believes "a lot of people relate to" the Thompsons, a unit comprised of six-year old Alana, her three sisters and Alana's biological father, Mike.
But not many out there can relate to the salary this family rakes in for each episode. Shannon has shot down reports that put her weekly take-home at $4,000 and simply says in this latest interview:
"We're very well compensated."

saw a commercial with one kid blind folded and they were all breathing in her face with their putrid filthy unbrushed teeth(?) as she was all grossed out. God only knows what they eat. next they'll be backing up to the kids nose with their fat hairy butts.....lol
How this family behaves is no one else's business unless they hurt someone else in any way. You don't have to watch the show. Yes, it can be surprising to some insulated individuals that people exist in this country who do not have the grammar, poise, physical good looks or interest in their own health that they feel they themselves possess. But that is the way it is, has always been, and always will be. Bottom line: this family lucked into a way to support their family without using the government and are paying their fair share of taxes on their good fortune. They spend time with their children, who are not abused. They don't appear to be drunks or drug addicts. Anybody can stand to lose weight and learn more refined manners- there is nothing here I can really find too much fault with.
