Young Rangers Fan Loses Foul Ball to Adults, Cries; Yankees Announcer Trashes Clueless Couple

by at . Comments

There is currently no law that says you have to hand over a foul to a nearby toddler who was also reaching for it and cries as a result ... but come on, guys.

At the Rangers-Yankees game Wednesday night, a couple was so stoked to have caught one, they not only didn't give the thing up, they openly celebrated and preened for the cameras with the ball as the youngster bawled nearby:

This earned them a tongue-lashing from Yankee broadcaster Michael Kay, and landed the three-year-old and his parents on Good Morning America (above).

Luckily for our little buddy, the Rangers are giving him a ball signed by the ENTIRE TEAM. Class move by Texas and not a bad consolation prize for the kid.

Sean Leonard and Shannon Moore, on the other hand, have been castigated by the media - and want an apology from Kay, who led the charge.

"Oh my God they can't give it to the kid? They're actually like rubbing it in the kid's face. Very cold," Kay said of the pair, which disputed this account.

They told a Dallas television station that they had no idea the young boy next to them was crying or even upset over missing out on the baseball.

Leonard and Moore say they were simply caught up in the moment during the game and would've given the toddler the ball if they'd seen him.

They want an apology from the Yankees' play-by-play man for his remarks about them. Think they deserve it? Or should they sell their ball and buy a clue?

I love how this is deleting the story that came out. The people were into each other and were there celebrating because they were days from getting married. They did offer the kid the ball but the parents said no because he should not get everything he wants. The team tossed him another ball later. The announcers jumped to conclusions and sullied these people's name by letting people believe they were selfish pricks who kept a ball from a kid.

WHY TRASH THE COUPLE THAT GOT THE BALL. THE CRYING SPOILED BRAT, HAS TO LEARN, YOU DON'T GET EVERYTHING YOU WANT, JUST BY CRYING. ANYWAY, A PLAYER GAVE THE KID A BASEBALL, THAT SHUT HIM UP.

I have a three year old and if he acted that way I would have been
so embrassed. Just another kid being raised to feel like the world owes him something. Shame on the parents for not using this time to teach him you don't get everything in life. The couple who caught the ball did NOTHING wrong.

child-hating selfish "adults" Sean needed the ball cuz he hasn't got a pair or he would have told his girl to get over it and give it to the child. Props to Kay!

Announcers a real a-hole. He should have been fired for that. I agree that the couple should not have to be crucified, and any of the players who trashed them are real jerks too.

If I had caught the ball I wouldn't have given it to anyone sitting next to me. That's my once in a lifetime moment. That child has years and years to catch a ball. So these people who keeps saying how selfish and ignorant that couple is need to get over it. If that particular moment hadn't been televised it wouldn't have been a big deal. But let's continue to teach our kids that its ok to act out in the public eye so they will get what they want. Brittany, Lindsay, Paris, Nicole, Kim etc etc, this list goes on forever.

Does EVERY child that was at the stadium that day get a freaking ball signed by all the Rangers?! The Kardashianisation of America continues. Congratulations on becoming a country that actually lives and dies not by values, or morals or decency but by what you see on the television. Ask no questions, afford no benefit of the doubt, hate your neighbours and throw a hissy fit when you don't get what you want (in this case I'm talking about the people trashing this innocent couple, not the child - toddlers you expect to have the maturity of...well...immature children...)

First of all the kid got a ball in game one. so every kid deserves a game ball? I go to games hoping to get one myself. The ones who are shellfish are those kids parents..

The parents said that the kid had caught a ball at a prior gm..1 is enough! after years and years of going to yankees gms i finally got a ball thrown to me by lou pinella during the 2001 playoffs..i still have that ball in a case, once in a lifetime!
