David Letterman is receiving some valuable lessons from some very famous guests.

With the host prepared to sign off forever on Wednesday night, the biggest A-Listers on the planet have been stopping by The Late Show to bid farewell.

George Clooney taught Letterman not to trust him by handcuffing himself to the comedian, while Tina Fey taught Letterman to have self-confidence by stripping off her dress on stage.

On Monday evening, meanwhile, Tom Hanks appeared on the program and asked to take a selfie with Letterman… via selfie stick!

Hanks explained that wife, Rita Wilson "announced when they first came out that we would never ever have a selfie stick in the house."

However, he proceeded to explain that they sell the ubiquitous accessories "all over Florence, which was the birthplace of the Renaissance."

Hanks and Letterman then used the apparatus to cover their double chins, with the former making a quip over the latter’s retirement plans to close out the segment.

"In a couple of weeks when you head down to – I’m just gonna guess what you’re gonna be up to, two words – Space Camp, take one of these bad boys with you."
