Two years ago, we wondered what the Jolie In NYC blogger would do after she was outed as Ladies Home Journal beauty editor Nadine Haobsh. We predicted a book deal, especially since her anon-blog all but guaranteed she would never get another job at a woman???s magazine.
Well, we must have publishing ESP, because Haobsh is back with a book, Beauty Confidential. And last night we had a dream about being too tired to work today, and now we are completely exhausted. Seriously, this is getting creepy.
If you want to feel guilty about putting your money toward food and rent instead of your appearance, then this is the book for you. One ???beauty myth??? to dispel yourself of: ???A $25 cut looks the same as a $250 cut.??? Was that even a myth?
The book is littered with suggestions about how to spend money, like on the right eyeshadow, the perfect conditioner and well-maintained highlights. But Haobsh isn???t against skimping on moisturizer to save up for a trip to France for European beauty products. Forget about the falling dollar, this is your face we’re talking about!
Of course, it wasn???t so long ago that Haobsh didn???t have to save money on beauty products. As she reminds us again and again, she was a former beauty editor and she got everything complimentary. Haobsh is of the disposition that when handbags are free, everything is right in the world. Her friends seemed to share that attitude, and benefited with review samples repurposed as Christmas presents.
Minus the free hand cream, this book made us feel like we were friends with her, assuming that as a friend Haobsh is self-involved and judgmental.
And like good frienemies, we can???t wait for Haobsh???s book party later this weekend. We???re expecting a gift bag filled with products we could never afford ourselves and judgmental looks for wearing jeans after 8.
