Whether she was “given her walking papers,” as Keith Kelly suggests, or simply felt it was time to move on, Judy Miszner has left her position as publisher of the Village Voice, a job she held for seven years.
In a memo to her staff, she writes:
“I thank all of you for making these the 7 best years of my career. . . Through it all, you have shown unsurpassed loyalty and commitment to the Voice. I am confident that a successful future lies ahead for you in the new organization and wish you the best of luck. I will miss you.”
Her replacement, Michael Cohen, “a newspaper man” comes from the Miami Times News. This swap is one marker in the major overhaul happening over at the Voice, including the October merger with newspaper chain, New Times.
No word yet on the new policy Voice staffers are likely hoping for. We hear the downtown digs have a policy of moving people up on the chain, while slapping them with the same titles the were hired under.
