Robin Thicke and Paula Patton are calling it quits after eight years of marriage.

The couple issued a statement on Monday, saying, “We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time.”

The pair met when Thick was 14, and Patton was 16. They married in 2005 and welcomed a son, Julian Fuego, in April 2010. “It was hard when we became parents, because we had to balance our careers with this new person in our lives,” Thicke told People magazine in 2011.

” changed everything,” he added. “It was tough at first. She was stressed. I took time off. I lost my mojo. After a while, we hit our rhythm and we are more in love and supportive than ever.”

Sources say that work schedules may have been a factor in their separation. “They’re both at the top of their careers right now and they’re never together. She’s filming in Canada and he’s on tour,” says the source.

Thicke, 36, canceled his concert in Atlanta on Friday to fly to Vancouver where Patton, 38, is filming her movie in hopes of saving the marriage. According to sources, after sitting down to discuss their relationship, both left very upset, accepting that their marriage was over.

Thicke then canceled his Orlando concert to spend time with their 3-year-old son.
