Spencer Pratt, and his bride Heidi Montag exited the ITV reality show I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! at the end of the second episode, which aired Tuesday, June 2.
The Hills actor and actress, as reported by TMZ yesterday, were reported to have walked off the set in Costa Rica after Pratt, in a major snit, declared, “If you give me a script I’ll do what you want, I’m not a reality star.”
If that is really what happened behind the scenes, it was crafted differently in front of the cameras. Pratt found God in the jungle, and was baptized by Stephen Baldwin, who is reportedly a nondenominational ordained minister. Spencer and Heidi were on a religious crusade of sorts during the show, sharing their faith with a decidedly unreceptive crowd.
They threatened to leave multiple times, and in the end that is exactly what they have done. Some of the others doubted it was for real, and fully expect that the couple will return. Other say it’s the real deal.
Spencer’s rationale for leaving was quite simple. “Super-celebrities don’t belong in the jungle. They belong in Hollywood with the paparazzi.” His bride murmured in a wistful tone as they got into a waiting vehicle, “I love The Hills.”
The reality show enjoyed a 6.4 million viewer audience on the premiere episode, according to Nielsen Media Research. The phone banks were opened up last night, with viewers instructed to vote off one woman, except for Patti Blagojevich, who has immunity. The results will be revealed on Thursday night.
The producers aren’t wasting any time getting new talent to replace the reluctant newlyweds. Daniel Baldwin, brother of Stephen Baldwin, is reportedly already in Costa Rica and will replace Spencer. Flying in, even as we speak, is Holly Montag, Heidi’s sister. She promised the show’s producers that she will stick with it, despite the quick curtain call by her sibling.
