Mixed martial artist Ronda Rousey made it into the record books last night at UFC 157 when she defeated Liz Carmouche in the main event.

The two kicked off the evening in the first-ever women’s UFC fight in the newly created 135-pound bantamweight division.

Ronda, the first woman to sign with the UFC in Nov. 2012, was defending her title in Anaheim and is now 7-0 after finished off Liz in the first round with a submission armbar.

All of Ronda’s wins have happened in the first round, with this one going the longest with only 11 seconds remaining. Rousey got into trouble early on in the round when Carmouche used a rear-naked choke hold – but managed to pull off the win.

Both women have impressive backgrounds–Ronda won an Olympic bronze-medal for judoka and Carmouche is a former Marine.

The sold-out event featuring the historic title fight brought a great deal of media attention to the UFC, proving President Dana White was totally wrong some years back when he suggested that “women would never fight for his organization.” He is definitely eating his words now.
