‘Family Ties’ actress Meredith Baxter married her longtime partner Nancy Locke on Sunday afternoon in Los Angeles.

The couple obtained their marriage license in Beverly Hills on Friday and exchanged handwritten vows over the weekend in an intimate ceremony witnessed by close friend and family members, including Baxter’s five children who range in age from 47 to 29.

Nancy, 56, and Meredith, 66, reportedly took a few dance lessons in preparation for their reception that featured Locke’s band and a friend who sang and played the guitar.

They have been together for seven years. The actress, a breast cancer survivor, revealed she was one-half of a lesbian couple in 2009 during an interview with Matt Lauer on TODAY. Her partner is a general contractor.

She explained to Lauer that she didn’t realize she was gay until 2002, suddenly discovering why her four marriages failed when she began a same-sex relationship. Prior to this revelation she said she “felt like a fraud in my own life.”

Baxter said after the ceremony, “Now I understand why marriage caught on!”

Baxter starred as Elyse Keaton in the popular 80’s sitcom ‘Family Ties,’ the television show that proved to be a springboard for several of the cast members, including Michael J. Fox – who won three consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series
