Ty Inc. CEO Ty Warner has apparently seen the light and has retired the names Marvelous Malia and Sweet Sasha from two new dolls that have made waves at the White House.

Henceforth, the dolls that looked remarkably like the president’s daughters, shall be called Marvelous Mariah and Sweet Sydney. All proceeds from the sale of the dolls formerly known as Malia and Sasha will be donated to charity.

Early on, Warner’s public relations spokesperson indicated that it was merely coincidence that their newest $9.95 collectible offerings had names that mimicked the first children, Malia and Sasha Obama.

The first family didn’t buy that for a moment. According to Michelle Obama‘s press secretary Katie McCormick, “We feel it is inappropriate to use young private citizens for marketing purposes.”

The irony is that all of those Marvelous Malia and Sweet Sasha dolls are now highly collectible and will be quickly cleared from store shelves by savvy shoppers across the land. Expect eBay to be heavily inundated with auction offerings very soon.
