Kris Humphries is breathing a sigh of relief after signing a one-year deal that paves the way for his return to the New Jersey Nets.
The athlete was looking for a multi- year deal worth $10 million annually but settle for the single year option that pays $8 million.
After passing the physical, Humphries is expected to be back in uniform as early as Wednesday night when the Nets take on the New York Knicks.
The NBA forward had a breakout season in 2011, averaging a double-double in points and rebounds.
Many wondered if Humphries’ hoops career had become tainted by his association with the Kim Kardashian. His 72-day marriage fiasco is now the stuff of legends and he is hoping to wipe the slate clean with a fast-tracked annulment.
At the conclusion of the NBA lockout, Kris was left dangling for what seemed like a pretty significant span of time. His brother-in-law Lamar Odom got picked up early last week by the Dallas Mavericks and saw his first court time on Sunday, while Khloe Kardashian schmoozed with team owner Mark Cuban.
Odom and Humphries will see their first head to head competition on Feb. 28, 2012 at American Airlines Center in Texas.
