Katie Holmes, a former Catholic schoolgirl from Toledo who went to L.A. at age 16, graces the September 2010 cover of New York magazine.
The actress sat down for an interview about her “amazing husband” Tom Cruise and their “strong-willed and determined” daughter Suri Cruise.
Holmes is currently shooting an upcoming History Channel mini-series, The Kennedys, and considers the opportunity to portray the late Jacqueline Kennedy the role of a lifetime.
Probably the least surprising aspect of the new interview is the fact that 4-year-old Suri is still running the show at home. Katie reminded the NY interviewer that her precocious kid has been “picking out all of her clothes since she was eighteen-months old.”
Holmes laid out some examples of how her daughter operates. “‘She says, ‘I want this sleeve cut’, and it’s like, ‘Okay, we’ll cut it.'” She went on to say, “Tom and I went to the Met Ball a couple of years ago, and I had this beautiful red gown and these royal-blue shoes that I wasn’t planning on wearing, but Suri made me put them on and so I was like, ‘Okay, I trust you.'”
The celebrity mom can’t say enough about her only child. “She’s so creative and she’s so bright and so special. Whatever she wants to do, I know she’s going to be amazing at it. I’ve already started my applause, and I will be applauding for the rest of my life.”
She and Tom have hired a teacher to begin the process of homeschooling the youngster every day. Katie reports that she is pleased with the one-on-one education. We’re not sure how much control the educator is exerting on her opinionated young pupil, whose parents strongly believe: “You really have to go with what the child is wanting.”
Regarding her marriage, Holmes claims: “My big concern is what does he have going, what do I have going, what are we going to do this weekend.” She admits that having so many people watching them “is weird”, but she just smiles and nods.
