A Los Angeles judge sentenced a Chicago-area businessman to 30 months in prison for secretly shooting peephole videos of ESPN reporter Erin Andrews and posting them on the internet.
Michael David Barrett was also ordered to pay $7,366 in restitution.
According to court records, Barrett was accused of shooting videos of Andrews through peepholes in hotel rooms in three states, posting the videos on the Internet and trying to sell them to TMZ.
In February 2008, Barrett stayed in the hotel room next to Andrews in Columbus, Ohio and used a peephole to secretly shoot video of Andrews naked in her room.
Barrett also spied on Andrews in a Nashville hotel where he again filmed nude peephole video. Seven of the eight videos posted on the internet were reportedly taken in the Nashville hotel room.
At the hearing in December when Barrett pleaded guilty, Andrews said, “He stalked me in a calculated way, I’ve been humiliated. I’ve been embarrassed and my career has been ripped apart.”
Andrews added, “I am subject to crude comments. “I walk into stadiums, and fans make crude comments to me. I have nightmares about this sexual predator.”
