As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end and for 6th grader David Witthoft of Ridgefield, Connecticut, he picked the occasion of his 12th birthday to give up his Brett Favre jersey after wearing it every day for 1,581 days.

The lad received the oversized No. 4 Packer jersey for Christmas 2003 when he was seven years old. He immediately put the jersey on and proceeded to wear it every day until recently. Before we gross anyone out, his mother laundered the shirt every other day, but always had it ready for her son to put on each morning.

The shirt went from being oversized to being a little on the small side as the young man grew up over the past few years. Dave celebrated his 12th birthday on April 23, 2008 and ended his 4+ year stint of donning the same green and gold garment daily in support of Brett Favre and the Packers. Apparently the shirt was barely hitting his belt line prior to being cast aside recently.

According to the lad’s father, Chuck Witthoft, his son has always been a huge Favre fan and took the news hard when Favre announced his retirement plans back in March. Dave and his family will be in attendance at Lambeau Field on Sunday, September 8th when Brett Favre’s No. 4 is retired during a half time ceremony.

Dave wants to frame and hang his jersey in his bedroom, but his parents plan to contact the Packer organization to see if they have an interest in displaying it in the Packer Hall of Fame.

So what did the boy wear to school on the day after he shed No. 4 for the last time? He wore a red Nike shirt.
