There was absolutely no love shown last night by the judges for Top 6 ‘American Idol’ contestant Lazaro Arbos, but it isn’t likely to spell doom for the 22-year-old Cuban born singer during tonight’s elimination.
The remaining six competitors sang two songs from the Bacharach-David catalog during Wednesday’s performance round.
Angie Miller performed ‘Anyone Who Had a Heart’ and ‘Love Came Down.’ Amber Holcomb ‘I Say A little Prayer’ and ‘Love On Top.’ Janelle Arthur ‘I’ll Never Fall in Love Again’ and ‘The Dance.’ Kree Harrison crooned ‘What the World Needs Now’ and ‘Help Me Make It Through the Night.’
Judges’ favorite Candice Glover earned a standing O for ‘Don’t Make Me Over’ and a glitter bombing courtesy of Mariah Carey for her rendition of ‘Love Song.’
Keith Urban proclaimed, “It was crazy. It was one of those moments when all the stars line up and I agree with Randy. That is one of the best performances in American Idol history.”
Lazaro Arbos struggled with ‘Close to You’ and ‘Angels,’ leaving the judges hard-pressed to find words. Randy Jackson said after the first tune, “Yo. Wow. I’m actually kind of speechless. I think it’s the worst performance you’ve ever had.”
Many believe that Arbos, who has a significant stutter, is the new Sanjaya Malakar … the 2013 version of the Season 6 guy who had a voting block that kept him in the competition long after he fell out of favor with Simon Cowell and the rest of the judges.
Prior to ‘Idol,’ Lazaro worked at an ice cream shop. He revealed, “It’s the only job I can get where I don’t have to do ‘smart people’ stuff like talking.”
