Puerto Rican pop musician Ricky Martin and his long time partner Carlos Gonzalez Abella have split, ending their four-year relationship.
A rep for the singer issued this statement, “Ricky and Carlos have mutually agreed to end their relationship but continue to be united by friendship and their shared experiences.”
The entertainer tweeted on December 27, “Changes oh changes.”
According to PEOPLE, “They’ve spent very little time together in recent months and have grown apart. They’ve been on the outs for a while now.”
Martin is the father of 5-year-old twin boys, Matteo and Valentino. They were born in August 2008 via a surrogate mother.
He told Vanity Fair last year, “When I started the process with my sons, Carlos wasn’t in my life.” Gonzolez was reportedly reluctant to begin a relationship with “a father with a family” but according to Martin, they managed to create a family structure.
During a guest appearance in late September 2013 on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show,’ the singer shared photos of his kids and his partner.
Ricky came out publicly as gay in 2010. He said during a ‘Larry King Live’ interview in 2011, “Everything about saying that I am gay feels right. If I’d known how good it was going to feel, I would have done it ten years ago.”
