Garth Brooks announced Monday on ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’ that he will launch a world tour in 2014, his first such undertaking in more than a decade.
He was on the show to promote his new album ‘Blame It All on My Roots: Five Decades of Influences,’ a six-disc set including covers, his greatest hits and a DVD of his Las Vegas show.
Brooks, 52, retired in 2000 after struggling to find balance in his life, indicating he wouldn’t be back to making music until his youngest daughter was 18.
He wed country singer Tricia Yearwood on December 10, 2005 and slowly crept back into his former career calling by signing a deal with Walmart on a six-CD box set of records titled ‘The Limited Series.’
That morphed into a five-year Vegas deal to performed a one-man show at Wynn Las Vegas beginning in 2009. That gig just ended — and it dovetails nicely with his youngest child coming of age.
Garth told Robin Roberts this morning, “It sure feels good to get to throw your hat back in the ring. All my babies are fine with it. Ms. Yearwood is fine with it. So now I get to do what I love to do, which is play music. I get to be with the person I want to be with, which is Ms. Yearwood.”
He explained, “Our baby is a senior in high school. My children are off on their own so the guilt of not being there… I’m a phone call dad now. ‘Hey, Dad, I love you, can I borrow some money?'”
Yearwood has made a name for herself outside of music with a television series ‘Trisha’s Southern Kitchen.’ The Food Network show won an Emmy Award in 2013 for Outstanding Culinary Program.
