Barack Obama and his family will be headed to Martha’s Vineyard for an eight day vacation beginning Aug. 10. The president and his entourage plan to return to Washington D.C. on Aug. 18.
The Vineyard, where “the old money of New England spends the summer,” is south of Cape Cod – where the Kennedy compound of Hyannis Port is located.
Architect Rick Sundberg confirmed that the first family will be staying at a $7.6 million home that he renovated in 2006, in the wealthy Chilmark area in Dukes County, Massachusetts.
The residence is owned by corporate financier David Schulte, who runs a Chicago-based private equity firm and was a large donor to Obama’s campaigns.
The swanky digs sit on nine and a half acres and feature a private master suite with its own den. An open floor plan includes pond and ocean views from the living room, dining room and kitchen. The estate also boasts a small basketball court.
This is the fourth year that the president and his family will spent part of August on the island. They previously rented Blue Heron Farm, a sprawling home on 28.5 acres. That property, worth $21.9 million, was snatched up by a British architect in 2011.
The Chilmark residence has been featured in numerous publications, including the book Martha’s Vineyard: Contemporary Living, published in 2010.
