Stop the presses! You will be relieved to know that Elton John and Madonna have kissed and made up… well sort of.
Elton and his husband David Furnish sat down for an interview recently with Extra reporter Terri Seymour and the subject of his feud with Madge came up. The flaming diva singer responded that the fight came to an end last summer in France.
He told Seymour that they made up when he happened to spot Madonna while they were dining at the same restaurant, “She came in, and I sent over a note. She was very gracious. I apologized profusely because what I said should never have appeared in public. She accepted our apology, and then we bought her dinner. That’s over and done with. She was really great about it.”
David added, “We don’t believe in putting negativity out in the world, both of us were embarrassed when all that stuff came out. But you’ve got to put all that behind you and just go forward with the positivity.”
Elton continued, “I have to say, she was fantastic. She was just, ‘Okay, let’s get a move on.’ I was very relieved, because she had every right to say ‘I don’t want to talk…’ I said, ‘Listen — you have an option of not talking to me again and I completely understand it,’ and she said ‘No, no. I accept your apology. Let’s move on.'”
The drama began back in 2002 when Elton bashed Madonna’s song for the 007 film, ‘Die Another Day,’ calling it the worst Bond song ever. Then in 2004 Elton accused her of lip syncing during her Re-Invention Tour and again before her Super Bowl performance where he wished her lucky by saying, “Make sure you lip-sync good.”
Furnish wasn’t an innocent bystander. In 2012 at the Golden Globes he said, “I like Madonna’s music, but not her movies. She should stick to what she is good at.”
The kicker came last year when Elton said she looked like a “fairgrounds stripper” and indicated that her “career was over.” Ouch!
Kudos to Madonna for turning the other cheek after several years of bitter trash talk. Did she let Elton and his partner off too easy?
