Hey, y’all! Southern chef Paula Deen has announced that she is living with Type 2 diabetes. The diagnosis has long been rumored but only now confirmed.

The Food Network star has partnered with drugmaker Novo Nordisk to launch Diabetes in a New Light, a program geared toward finding simple ways to manage the challenges that come with the disease.

“I was determined to share my positive approach and not let diabetes stand in the way of enjoying my life. I’m excited to team up with Novo Nordisk on this initiative to show others that managing diabetes does not have to stop you from enjoying the things you love.”

Deen has come under fire in the past for her unhealthy cooking techniques. Celeb chef Anthony Bourdain made waves in August 2011 when he labeled Paula the “most dangerous person to America” who’s “proud of the fact that her food is f—— bad for you.”

In light of her recent Type 2 diabetes diagnosis, Bourdain insists he takes “no pleasure” in the news and believes that Paula has known for some time and was just looking for a way to “position herself.”

Deen revealed that she is taking the drug Victoza once a day, a non-insulin injection that helps to improve blood sugar levels. Coupled with lifestyle changes that include switching up her favorite recipes, she expects to improve her health and help others at the same time.
